You may have noticed the new link on the side of my blog about protecting independent media. I found it through Pandagon.
The Post Office has issued an uneven rate increase for the mailing of publications. The plan was suggested by media-giant Time Warner, which disproportionately increases the rate of postage for small and medium-sized publications, while locking in a lower rate for those owned by massive companies.
This new rule is going to seriously jeopardize independent media publications like Bitch Magazine, among countless others, who are already often strapped for cash and working off of donations. We’re already in such dire need of alternate view points in our saturated, homogenized media and we can’t let that happen.
Click here to send a letter to Congress asking them to take action and pass legislation which will stop this insanely unfair practice. And spread the word. The post office already has a monopoly, we can’t let them use it to further the monopoly that’s forming in our media.
