If Hertzfeldt likes to push people's buttons, I imagine that he wouldn't be all that that surprised that we're upset. And it certainly seems clear to me that you're looking for something to feel superior about. If a misogynist, stick-figure animated short is the best you've got, good luck to you.

I'm amazed that the self righteous people here who are excoriating people for not taking enough time to learn about feminism clearly haven't even bothered to do even a cursory examination of Don Hertzfeldt and his art. He's a highly successful and critically highly regarded award winning animator. Part of his style is that he likes to animate random violence and push people's buttons. You can either enjoy it for what it is or not. Also, I find it amusing (saddening) that no one even bothered to point out that the most obvious reading of this is that he's making fun not of the women, but of the kinds of guys who hold these attitudes that women are unfair towards them. It certainly makes it clear that you're simply looking for something to get upset about.

"As Sion mentioned, men are always the ones perceived as the “sex-obsessed”, chauvinistic, self-centered people. "

And just who created this stereotype?

The problem the "it's just a joke, relax" thing fails to address is that stereotypes are created by patriarchy to validate patriarchy, to support and nomalize unearned, undeserved male priledge and to cement attitudes that are deliberately designed to oppress the Other.

The one example of an less-than-ideal male stereotype is one example of patriarchy hating on men.

The funny thing is I used to believe I was quite the feminist. Totally believe in equal rights in the workplace or anywhere really. Being in a family of traditional Chinese people I've had to undergo the "bigger brother is the better investment" deal (and have heatedly protested). But, I have to say, as much as I have read and listened and found many articles, animations, songs, movies degrading and offensive to the status of women in a particular society, everyone needs to be able to laugh at themselves sometimes. Ok, so maybe it's a huge generalization, and obviously a huge exaggeration but it is first and foremost a joke. I mean, unless you haven't noticed, they are plenty of jokes and generalizations and exaggerations about men to. As Sion mentioned, men are always the ones perceived as the "sex-obsessed", chauvinistic, self-centered people. And in fact, I found that, if you're looking for meaning, the little guy keeps grinning after being bashed up. Obviously making him a guy who doesn't learn is rather/completely idiotic. and what's wrong with that, the women in the animation see that in him and bash him up and defend themselves from an idiotic man... And now, the animation is no longer poking fun at women but at men, and their gullibility. Besides, the woman went for his money, that just makes her in control, she's obviously headstrong, right? She knows what she needs, and in the end he's the one who just falls for it! So there you go, enjoy shredding my argument to pieces, I'm sure it'll relax your nerves!

p.s. and I won't put a smile in there, otherwise you might think I'm being condescending. All the best, keep ignoring those trolls..

For real. I'm personally taking this as a lesson about what happens when you don't ignore trolls. Ugh. Sometimes my desire to mock them over-rides my rational knowledge that I should just ignore them. :)

I love lazy and stupid trolls, don't you Cara?

Sion, do the females a favor. Where a sign around your neck - a large and neon colored sign - that says "misogynist". That way we can avoid you and you can continue in your stupid and lazy haze. Deal?
