The Aurora Planned Parenthood clinic that has received so much publicity, thanks to anti-choice fanatics, may not open on time. The clinic was scheduled to be open on the 18th, but due to the “investigation” as to how they received their permit, it may be stalled. You see, the “investigation” will probably not be complete by then, and the Mayor will not allow the clinic to open until the review is finalized. Yes, as I suspected, this was in fact a cheap ploy by the wingnuts to stall the opening. And of course, they couldn’t be more proud.
I’ve also made repeated mention of the desire by anti-choice protesters to protest outside of clinic workers’ homes. Well, now there’s a letter to the editor by one such wingnut, defending that tactic.
So what exactly happens when we picket in front of an abortionist’s house?
We line the road (staying on the public right-of-way) holding bright yellow and black signs warning that an abortionist lives in this neighborhood. We hold large posters showing stages of fetal development as well as a smiling baby captioned LIFE. While standing (for two hours) we silently pray for the abortionist to use his God-given talents to save lives instead of ending them. We end with Bible readings and a group prayer.
That’s it. No crazed anarchists, no ugly confrontations, no violence. We are pro-life, and we respect and follows God’s laws, including “Thou shalt not kill. “It goes without saying that a five-year record without a single arrest for any reason, not even a single parking ticket, belies the hyped up editorial fears.
Chapter 37 of Joseph Scheidler’s landmark book, “CLOSED: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion” is titled “Picket the Abortionist’s Homes.” Scheidler states, “If it were widely known that they are abortionists they night be very uncomfortable in their communities, and their communities might be uncomfortable with them.”
Oh yeah, now I see. Nothing crazy about that at all! What could possibly be wrong with trying to alienate a person from their community, harassing them outside their homes and letting psychopaths with a record of murdering doctors who perform abortions know where such doctors live?
I’ve already posted about something small that you can do to help. Also, donations are desperately needed from those who are able to give. And if you live in the area, please consider contacting Planned Parenthood of the Chicago Area to find out about volunteering and/or getting one of their lawn signs in support of the clinic.

Can we picket the picketer’s homes, then? Can lists of their addresses and phone numbers be listed on the web? I mean, if there’s nothing wrong with that tactic they won’t mind, right?
i don’t understand how this is ok? are these people really allowed to do this? doesn’t this fall under some kind of harassment law or qualify as stalking…something? can’t anyone protect the lives and privacy and well being of these people? “god’s law”? are you kidding? back when i was a christian i guess i missed the sunday school lesson about “thou shall harrass private citizens in their homes”
grr…
