The Donkeys’ Heads Are Up Their Asses

in 2008 election, Democrats, politics

So there are a lot of things really pissing me off today. But I think that I can only handle one at the moment, so I’m going to try to focus.

Four Democrats have pulled out of the Michigan primary.

There is no way to sugarcoat it: this is idiocy. The back story is that Michigan moved up their primary to preempt the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries. As some silly show of solidarity — really, a poorly cooked plan to get the state leadership to change its mind — the candidates all agreed to not campaign in any state that moved their primary before Iowa and New Hampshire’s. Michigan, stupidly or not, called their bluff.

And now Obama, Edwards, Biden and Richardson have made good on their promise. Grade. A. Idiocy. As Roy pointed out, being pissed off at state leadership is no reason to punish the people living there. Especially when it’s Michigan which is 1. facing really shitty times right now and 2. a swing state.

And what else makes this news significant? The fact that the other state to defy the threat was Florida. You know, the Florida. The one that “lost” us the 2000 election and could have won us the 2004 election but, you know, didn’t. Think what you will about the stunt that they pulled, the actual voters in Florida will be deciding the election, and they’re the ones who are going to be pissed off.

Clinton seems to be the only major Democratic contender that didn’t flush her brain down the toilet. And even she is saying that she will not campaign in Michigan, despite the fact that she has remained on the ballot. I hope that she changes her mind about that.

So, while we’re going around making “pledges,” I pledge that if Edwards and Obama pull this shit with Florida, too, with Clinton staying in the race, I’m officially on her side. Me, on Clinton’s side? But she’s my third pick for nominee! Yeah, well at this point she seems to be the only candidate left who actually wants to win this thing and not throw 44 electoral college votes away for the sake of a principle and not pissing off two states that have a combined total of 11 electoral college votes. All are swing states: which do you least want to piss off?

Right now, the Dems have a better chance of winning the presidency than they have since the other Clinton was in office. Obama, Edwards, if you feel like throwing that away, votes in Florida and Michigan are not the only ones you’re going to lose — because Rudy Giuliani sure as fuck isn’t going to be my president.

I live in Michigan and haven’t been able to quit ranting about this. I was thinking about voting for Obama in the primary but now he’s cut off that option. And I just can’t bring myself to go with Clinton…so, what voice do I have? None.

If only Gore would run…

I say write a letter to Obama telling him how he’s a dickhead who just lost your vote. There’s a voice.
