I love this book. I'm right in the middle of it, so far my favorites are "For lovers and fighters" by Dean Spade and “The Silence Surrounding Queer Sexual Violence and Why We’re Not Talking” by Elizabeth Latty. These articles really opened my eyes to new ways of looking at issues that have been knocking around in the back my mind for a while. I can't way to continue the rest of the book.

I loved this book as well. I'm not sure I agree with you on "The Eagle has Talons" though. I do not see where Stein is implying that militarism or participation in militarism is a "good" thing. Instead, I see a soldier willing to risk her job in order to criticize the systemic problem of militarism from WITHIN the system. The inclusion of this article was an exceptional choice. The truth is that there are many soldiers who identify as feminist . . . I am one of them. Stein's critique of this war is dead on. Right on. To judge a soldier for "participating" in an unjust war is without merit unless you have worn this uniform. I'm sure it is very easy to criticize the slippery slope of "choice" when you have never before served. I cannot tell you how great it is to hear another dissenting voice within the ranks. It means more to me than any "civilian" could ever know.

OMG, this is one of the best feminist books I've read. I read it about nine months ago. Jessica Valenti's article, "You're A Feminist, Deal" is what finally pushed me to identify myself as a feminist.

"Rice Tight With Beans" was one of my favorites, too, for opening my eyes to the complexity of race and knocking down the idea that people of this race or that race are some kind of monolithic block.

Also, StacyAnn Chin's article, "On Rooms To Fight and Fuck and Crow", and Mary Christmas' "No Goddesses, No Slaves".

I was also creeped out by Jennifer Stein's article, for much the same reasons that you mentioned.
