Another thing that might come up out of her pregnancy, perversely, might be blaming Jamie Lynn for the abstinence-only fallout–meaning, that there is already an increase in teen-pregnancy (the first since before Clinton’s administration) and it has a great deal to do with abstinence only education–Jamie Lynn herself said something along the lines of “people should wait for marriage to have sex, but I can’t judge because I didn’t.” That line could have come from any teen exposed to abstinence only education!!! As if that’s it–sex before or after marriage (like accidental pregnancy doesn’t happen in marriage and that people outside of marriage can’t prevent pregnancy/stds with contraception/condoms!!!!). Crazy, right?

Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if the right wing tends to paint the coming teen-pregnancy crisis on girls “looking up to and copying Jamie Lynn” verses the reality of the fall-out of abstinence only education!!! ugh, I wouldn’t be surprised.

But farren, in the off chance that you come back and didn’t get the point: it’s none of your business when any particular teenager starts having sex, and certainly not your place to try to make random guesses at their ages. It’s even less your business what a woman, teenager or not, does with her pregnancy or what she does with the child if she chooses she gives birth. I assure you that if she wanted an abortion, she would have had one with or without your advocacy, and would have also made the decision to give her child up for adoption, if she wanted to, without your incredibly wise input.

Sheesh, no wonder people say feminists lack a sense of humor. :-P

Selling the story to a tabloid was crass and tacky. The Spears family is crass and tacky. But once Jamie Lynn Spears decided she was going to have the baby and raise it, it had to come out — and the number of hate-filled statements I’ve seen about her really depresses me. It’s not most people’s ideal situation to have a child at 16, but she’s healthy, she’s rich, and she has some sources of emotional support. Adult women give birth in worse situations every day.

And I can only second the “fuck off and die” to the commenter who thinks it’s “irresponsible, immature and selfish” to have sex outside of marriage (roughly half of American teenagers and 95% of American adults are irresponsible, immature and selfish?) or that JLS has some duty to give the baby up for adoption — presumably to some married couple who’ve proved they’re better people than she is by not having birth control slip-ups in their teenage years.
