Well, look at that. I am, yet again . . . behind on everything!
This last week has been busy. I’ve been (to a minor extent) involved with the planning of a retirement party for the CEO of my Planned Parenthood affiliate. She’s an amazing woman. Anyway, the event was last night, so planning obviously ramped up, blah, blah, blah.
Really, other than to make excuses for my lack of posting, this is all by way of oh so casually mentioning that I got to meet the special guest we had at the party last night . . . Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s CEO Cecile Richards! Unfortunately (no, really unfortunately), I don’t have a photograph to prove it — things were rather hectic, and I would have felt like an ass for asking. I’ve seen her speak before, and she’s absolutely wonderful. She’s also extremely friendly, charismatic and when you talk to her she has that “makes you feel like you’re the only person in the room” quality about her. Of course, as I was introduced to her not only in terms of what I do with Planned Parenthood but also as a blogger. So, I talked to the CEO of Planned Parenthood (and daughter of legendary former Texas Governor Ann Richards!) about blogging. Hehe. Anyway, Cecile Richards is one of my feminist heroes, so it was a great honor to meet her, if only for a minute or two.
(If you’re feeling at all jealous, know that I am too: in her speech last night, Richards mentioned that she was starstruck because the night before she had met Barack Obama!)
Also, I’m not feeling very well. I’ve been coming down with a cold for the past few days, and I’m actually really glad and relieved that I managed to fend off anything more than a slight cough and sore throat until after the party last night. But now I’m feeling kind of crappy.
So, while I’m both trying to catch up on the news and goings on in the blogosphere, as well as recover from my cold, here’s the latest Target Women — this time, on Suffrage. Take note feminists, this one might hit a little close to home! But I still liked it. (And does anyone have any idea what that Army Wives shit was about?)

“Men, their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights, and nothing less.” — Susan B. Anthony

I really liked that video, Cara. (I haven’t been a big fan of the other ones by Target Women.)
“Army Wives” is apparently the newest version of “Desperate Housewives” or something. I’m afraid I don’t have a t.v., and if there’s a fandom it’s not being loud and cranky, so I know nothing else.
Oh yeah, sorry — I know what the show Army Wives is (though thank god I’ve never watched it). I’m trying to figure out why the hell Barack Obama and John McCain were talking about it.
Ok so I like doing small bits of research and answering questions. It seems there is a television show called Army Wives on lifetime. According to wikipedia it’s “a US television drama series about a woman who marries a soldier and moves her family onto a US Army post, where she becomes friends with other women and men whose spouses are in the Army.” Any way it seems both Mcain and Obama did short 30sec teasers for the show.

Any way I hope you feel better soon.
That is just… so strange. Why would they do that?
I suppose having both candidates do it means the show isn’t being “partisan”, but… why?
*sigh*
Ok, I’m a left-wing British person and I watch army wives (in the UK)- keep up people. ;) According to people in the know, Army Wives is the next big thing, and there is nothing like appealing to the vapid interests of women to get them to vote for you- right?
Army Wives is conservative enough to appeal to the Republican vote, but also has strong women characters and questions the morality of war enough to appeal to the Democratic viewer. I actually quite like it in a ‘escapism, don’t question too much, but doesn’t throw anti-women values in your face in an very overt way’, kind of a way. I am guessing the endorsement by different candidates is just a reflection of its popularity.
That ‘Target Women’ rocked.
… that last line is such crap. It really speaks volumes when someone is so fabulously unaware of the very real policy that is so important to this whole thing. Does she know that Obama has a perfect women’s issues record? Does she care?
I really should stop being surprised that people who claim to be interested in elections fail so completely to actually address the real issues. … as though you can know from just looking at a woman that she’d vote for the ERA. Please.
