This has to be the shoddiest study I’ve ever seen — after all, the researchers acknowledge that they questioned women about their moods after they were diagnosed in order to find out if their “negative thinking” had affected their development of cancer long before that diagnosis. Do you see how little sense that makes? To ask a bunch of women with cancer about their moods, and to ask a bunch of women without cancer about their moods, and if the women without cancer claim to have had a little bit more of a positive attitude throughout life . . . well emotional stress caused the cancer! I hate to think what would have happened if there was a statistically significant higher number of blonds in the control group — my brown hair and I would be awful worried right now!
Oh, and they also used only 600 total women in the study. And didn’t control for a bunch of factors.
But does any of that stop the BBC from running stories about how Teh Wimminz Iz Gettin Teh Breast Cancr Cuz Theyre 2 Moody? Well of course it fucking doesn’t.
I’ll keep holding my breath for a similar study on testicular cancer. Any day now, I’m sure.

You’ll never be able to hold your breathe long enough for the rational ones to admit to any kind of emotionalism…
Such as certain cancers (notably pancreatic) causing depression as a side effect?
