Just one addition - you can volunteer to phone bank from anywhere, even outside of California, either with a local group or from home. Organizations in other states are running phone banks (for MA people, <a href="http://www.massequality.org/events/?type=volunteer" rel="nofollow">MassEquality</a> is running phonebanks until the election), so people can see if their local GLBTQI advocacy group is organizing phonebanks. The NoOnProp8.com website also has a phonebanking system set up that anyone with a phone and internet access can use - great for people that have difficulties traveling to a phonebanking site or have scheduling difficulties and still want to help.
