Today is the 40th anniversary of the Beatles legendary rooftop performance, on top of their Apple office headquarters in Saville Row on January 30, 1969. It was their last ever live show. Below is one of the three performances they did of Get Back.
Oh, to have been there.
You can watch the full video on YouTube — part one starts here. You can also watch in HD, which has outstanding visual quality . . . but there’s also significant lag time between the audio and video. The choice is yours! Enjoy!

*tear* I love watching the rooftop concert. Seriously, I could do that all damn day long…
Cara, when they were doing this, did they know it was going to be their last live performance? Had they already decided to end things?
I think it was very much like with the recording of Abbey Road — no one said “this is going to be our last album” or “this is going to be our last concert” . . . but they all kind of knew. They broke up a couple of times while making Let It Be, they decided to do Abbey Road essentially to end things right, they’d quit touring years before, and so I really can’t feel that doing this at the end of the Get Back/Let It Be project, they wouldn’t have known, you know?
Oh wait. You know nothing about the Beatles. So . . . you probably don’t know. LOL :)
Yeah yeah yeah, make fun of me. You’re just a mean feminist who hates ponies or something. ;)
My husband “made” me sit through the entire movie on Friday. :) And we just watched our DVR’ed episode of The Colbert Report where Colbert interviewed Macca; screamingly funny.
Hahaha. “Did you just accuse the Dali Lama of potential cannibalism? Those are your words, Sir!”
I’m assuming you’ve seen Colbert’s interview with Paul McCartney…

Haha, yes Rachel. It was awesome. :) I posted my (brief) comments on it over at my Tumblr. I post all kinds of Beatles goodies over there!
ooh. I’ll keep updated on your tumblr! Thanks!
Hey Cara,
I’m taking a Youth Rebellion in Canada class right now, and we’re watching a bunch of things from the CBC archives.
Here’s some stuff from John & Yoko’s Montreal Bed-in.
Just wondering…
I noticed in the videos a couple of the Beatles
(my computer is so old, it watches things in 2 second blips,so faces are unrecognizable) one of them George I think are wearing coats that look like they are made of fur!!
I love the Beatles, and I very much hope I am wrong.
Can anyone confirm this?
I have no idea, Emma, if they were real fur. I just know that George loved that coat, and the coat that John was wearing actually belonged to Yoko. Obviously they could afford real fur . . . I honestly wouldn’t doubt them wearing it in 1968, but again, I don’t know.
Perhaps you can be somewhat comforted in the knowledge that if they are made of real fur, vegetarian and avid animal right supporter Paul McCartney would currently be just as appalled as you.
